An expansion appliance gradually widens a narrow upper jaw, creating space for crowded teeth and improving how the upper and lower teeth meet.
About the treatment
Widening the arch, gradually
When the upper jaw is narrower than the lower one, teeth crowd and the back teeth may not meet correctly — a crossbite. An expansion appliance applies steady outward pressure across the palate to widen the arch.
Expansion is done slowly and reviewed as it progresses. Once the required width is reached, the appliance stays in place for a period to let the new position stabilise before the next stage of treatment begins.
